Dogs who are 6-months and older are considered adult dogs. Our dog training programs are customized for your personal training goals. We successfully train family dogs, adventure buddies, service dogs and emotional support animals (ESA).
Dog training can be a confusing and daunting task. However, we simplify dog training using easy, practical and fun training techniques. We train from The Dog’s Perspective, which makes sense to your dog. The more dogs understand and the better dogs are understood, the easier training is for their devoted humans.
We address dog training with our basic programs and B&T programs. Dog of Your Dreams is the B&T program for pups 6-months and older. The Greatest Dog in the World program is an extended program that covers a dog’s development. Each of our training programs is tailored to dog’s stage of growth and learning abilities.
Dog Training Basics
Basic dog training covers 4 areas: house-training, manners, socialization and obedience.
House-Training
House-training includes crate training and potty training, two essential skills to develop harmony at home. Crate training not only speeds up potty training, but it also helps you and your dog sleep through the night. A calm dog curled up peacefully sleeping in their crate is more than sweet. Crate training is one of several training skills needed to successfully overcome dog anxiety.
Manners
Our training programs address poor manners, which includes biting, barking, jumping and other unwanted behaviors. We transform your chaotic home life into calm serenity. Extensive petting and massage allow you to tame your wild child pup.
Dog Socialization – The Muttley Crew and Friends
Socialization
Our B&T training environment is 100% residential with no kennel runs or outside cages. Instead, client dogs live in a comfortable home with a professional trainer (Dr. K) and friendly, well-trained dogs (The Muttley Crew). It’s immersive, round-the-clock training, like summer camp for puppy dogs, full of play, structure and life lessons.
Dogs need to properly socialize with humans, dogs and any other animals important in your life. Extensive off-leash socialization with friendly dogs is a hallmark of our B&T programs. Social play taps into the natural “monkey see, monkey do” learning process. Imagine your dog watching a calm, confident dog SIT politely, COME when called or STAY when asked. And then, your dog mimics those same behaviors. This type of social learning is the fastest, most natural way for dogs (and humans) to learn skills.
Obedience Dog Training
Dog obedience builds on the foundation skills learned as puppies. Foundation obedience skills include focus, come when called and self-control and are taught through positive, engaging methods. The LOOK skill teaches focus and connection. COME becomes more than an obedience skill; it’s a life-saving response to stress. And self-control trains your dog to rest calmly, instead of bouncing off the walls.
Adult dog training expands your dog’s obedience skills. Loose leash walking, leash reactivity, off-leash skills and advanced self-control training are included in dog obedience.
Advanced Dog Training
Advanced dog training includes service dog training, competitive obedience, dock diving, retrieving, sheepherding and tracking.
Treat Training
Our training methods do not include excessive treat training for several reasons. Not all dogs are food motivated, so treats do not work for all dogs. Some dogs are overly food motivated, making treats a distraction. Excessive treat training can cause intestinal distress and/or weight issues. Finally, buying high-value treats in not cheap!
Instead of training with food treats, we reward dogs with physical petting and verbal praise. Most dogs love and are highly motivated by petting and praise. Human also like training without treats because petting and praise cost nothing, are calorie free and endlessly available.
