Dog Anxiety

Bear (6-months) & Muttley Friends

Dog anxiety, especially separation anxiety, can quietly take over a household. It’s heartbreaking to watch a beloved dog struggle, pacing the floor, trembling, or crying when left alone. Mixed-breed shelter dogs and very young puppies are most at risk, but any dog can be affected.

No matter the cause, compassionate and effective dog training can bring peace back to your lives. Our proven training methods treat dog anxiety WITH love and WITHOUT medications, helping dogs feel safe, understood and deeply connected to their humans.

Dog Anxiety Symptoms

Anxious dogs will bark, whine, howl, scream, tremble, shake, pant, pace, tuck their tail, cower, army-crawl, have dilated pupils and more. These signs can range from mild restlessness to overwhelming distress.

The body’s stress responses Fight, Flight or Freeze drive dogs’ behaviors. Fight response may appear as snapping or growling. Flight response explains dogs bolting in response to sudden, loud sounds. Freeze is the most unpredictable response. Some dogs lash out while others bolt or completely shut down. Imagine your dog finally lying on their bed in the crate with the door closed! Their eyes softly closed, breathing calm and steady, instead of being restless for hours on end. This is what our dog training programs accomplish.

Dog Anxiety Medication

Our mission is to help dogs feel calm and confident without relying on medication. Antidepressants and other pharmaceuticals, such as Xanax, Valium and Prozac, are often prescribed for dog anxiety. Unfortunately, these medications have serious potential side effects! These are the potential risks to your beloved pups when giving them pharmaceuticals: sedation, lethargy, agitation, aggression, vomiting, diarrhea, heart rate changes and loss of coordination.

Some kinder, gentler options do not risk those scary side effects. These options include CBD oils, supplements, diffusers and pheromones. However, these are expensive and vary in their effectiveness.

Imagine needing only your gentle hands, kind voice and dog’s focused attention to keep them calm and under control, Our training programs build lasting emotional balance through focused dog-human engagement. Happy tail wags brought on by natural joy and not synthetic drugs.

Puppy Bear Learning to Relax

Dog Anxiety Training

Our residential board and train (B&T) programs are ideal for anxious dogs who need extra patience and understanding. To treat dog anxiety, we combine house training, dog-dog socialization, foundation obedience, loose leash walking and calming touch.

Client dogs live in our warm, welcoming home alongside our amazing Muttley Crew. We do NOT have cold kennel runs or outside cages. This home-based, camp-style immersion training helps dogs relax, learn and thrive. We accelerate your dog’s training through Monkey-See-Monkey-Do social learning. Imagine your dog who once hid in corners or barked at everything now curls up in the sunshine, eyes half-closed in relaxed serenity.

Dog Socialization

Lack of dog-dog socialization, especially in young puppies, often fuels anxiety. Positive social play experiences early in life help shape confident, happy dogs. Our Muttley Crew offers safe, guided play and mentorship, teaching client dogs the world is friendly and full of adventures. Imagine your dog dashing joyfully across the yard to greet a new furry friend, without fear they might get into a fight or run away in fear! This awesome sight will fill your heart with joy.

House Training Dogs

House training blends crate training and potty training. Crate training, essential for anxiety treatment, teaches dogs how to self-soothe and relax, just as babies peacefully sleepin their crib.

While crate training can be stressful at home, it’s quick, gentle, and effective in our programs. We create cozy “New York Studio Apartments” for all puppy dogs, and they soon see them as their own safe space. The moment your dog walks into their crate on their own, lies down and falls asleep, you’ll know they finally feel secure.

Loose Leash Walking an Anxious Dog

Dog Leash Training

Loose leash walks are the Crown Jewel of Dog Training. We use positive reinforcement techniques to stop pulling and leash reactivity. Daily ZEN Walks provide physical exercise for your bodies and calm your minds by getting into the zone. These daily bonding experiences create the engagement humans desire with their beloved dogs.

Leash training builds confidence and deepens the bond between dogs and humans by allowing them to explore the outside world together. Because attention comes before cooperation, we teach dogs to look at and focus on their human. Once a dog will readily LOOK, loose leash walking is much easier. Instead of bracing against the leash, you and your dogs will stroll side by side, just like walking with a service dog. You and your pup will share the same pace, smile and awesome experiences together.

Dog Petting & Massage

Petting and massage aren’t just rewards ….. they’re forms of therapy. Both are core to our programs, replacing constant treat-based training with loving touch and verbal praise.

We use massage techniques to calm the Fight, Flight, or Freeze stress responses and activate the Rest & Digest state. When combined with our LOOK skill, physical affection and kind words trigger Oxytocin, the love/cuddle hormone. The love hormone deepens your dog’s trust without reliance on medications or endless treats. Our calming techniques allow your dog’s whole body to soften under your gentle hands. You are no longer just your dog’s human. You’re their safe place.
