Bear (6-months) & Muttley Friends
Dog anxiety, especially separation anxiety, disrupts the lives of many homes. Mixed-breed shelter dogs and very young puppies are at the highest risk of having or developing anxiety. No matter the cause, dog training is essential to overcome the associated challenges of anxiety. Our dog training methods are an excellent solution to treating dog anxiety WITH love and WITHOUT medications.
Dog Anxiety Symptoms
Symptoms of dog anxiety include barking, whining, howling, screaming, trembling, shaking, panting, pacing, tucked tail, cowering, army-crawl, dilated eyes and more. The severity of dog anxiety ranges from mild to severe.
The hallmark stress responses are Fight, Flight and Freeze of the sympathetic nervous system. The Fight response is an aggressive dog. The Flight response is a scared, runner dog. When dogs Freeze, they are unpredictable. Some will fight, some will run and other dogs will literally shut down.
Dog Anxiety Medication
Our goal is to reduce and/or eliminate dog anxiety without the need to medicate dogs. Antidepressants and other pharmaceuticals are often prescribed for dog anxiety. These medications include Xanax, Valium and Prozac. Unfortunately, these come with serious potential side effects, including: sedation, lethargy, agitation, aggression, vomiting, diarrhea, changes in heart rate and lack of coordination. Alternative medications for dog anxiety includes CBD oils, supplements, diffusers and pheromones.

Puppy Bear Learning to Relax
Dog Anxiety Training
Our residential board and train (B&T) programs are ideal for training anxious dogs. We use dog socialization, house training, loose leash training plus extensive petting and dog massage to treat dog anxiety.
Anxious dogs thrive with immersion training. Client dogs live in our comfy, cozy home, with our super-friendly Muttley Crew. Traditional B&T facilities house client dogs in kennel runs and outside cages, which are not ideal for anxious dogs.
Dog Socialization
Lack of dog socialization, especially for young puppies, causes dog anxiety. Young puppies thrive when immersed with socialization opportunities early in life. Our Muttley Crew provides ample dog socialization opportunities, while mentoring our client dogs. Puppy dogs playing with other doggy pals is an invaluable experience for all our client dogs.
House Training Dogs
House training includes both puppy crate training and potty training. Crate training is essential for treating any type of anxiety. Puppies and dogs learn to self-soothe in a crate, similar to infant babies in a crib. Crate training can be challenging at home, but is super fast and effective in our training program. We ultimately create “New York studio apartments” for puppy dogs and they love it!

Loose Leash Walking an Anxious Dog
Dog Leash Training
Teaching your anxious, leash pulling dog loose leash walking is the crowning jewel of dog training. We use positive reinforcement training to stop leash pulling and leash reactivity. Our goal is for dogs to walk along side their humans, just like service dogs. Leash training builds confidence and strengthens the bond between dogs and humans by allowing dogs to experience the outside world with their beloved humans. We start leash training by teaching dogs to LOOK at you, so they can pay attention. Dogs cannot listen to you until they LOOK at you. Once you have their attention, loose leash walking becomes your everyday joy.
Dog Petting & Massage
Physical dog petting and massage, both major components of our dog training programs, treat dog anxiety with love. Instead of constant treat training, we use physical petting and verbal praise to reward and encourage puppy dogs. When training dog anxiety, we use massage techniques directed at the dog’s nervous system. With directed dog massage, we calm the Sympathetic response (Fight, Flight or Freeze) and activate the Parasympathetic response (Rest & Digest). The combination of our LOOK skill, plus physical petting and verbal praise activates the love/cuddle hormone (Oxytocin). Our dog training methods create the conditions for dogs to love us. All of this without the need for constant treats or anxiety medications.

Wonder Weeks Puppy – Bear (8-weeks)
Dog Training Programs
All our B&T programs help dogs overcome dog anxiety. Our Wonder Weeks Puppy program PREVENTS anxiety through early puppy socialization, house training, petting, etc. Our adult dog training programs (Dog of Your Dreams & Greatest Dog in the World) address the challenges of dog anxiety.
Because training an anxious dog requires lots of PATIENCE, a minimum 2-week B&T is recommended. Our 6-week B&T program is ideal to: (1) raise a puppy to an adult and 2) address all types of dog anxiety issues.
