Hello! My name is Mozart. Actually, Mozart is not my real name, but my alias. You might ask why a dog would need an alias. I must admit that I have been a naughty boy and want to keep my identity on the down-low. I want to protect the innocent, especially my mom & dad, who I love with all my big doggy heart.

I am a major fan of my bro, Beethoven. I hear comments about his movies all the time. Strangers even call me Beethoven. The main reason is pretty darn obvious. But alas, I am no Beethoven. He was a hero in the films, just like Lassie. No, I am a trouble-maker. I am more like his naughty yet complex brother. I chose my alias to be similar to Beethoven, but the naughty version. Volume 1 ~ A Philosophy Primer

Introducing the first volume of the Kindle eBook* series, The Dog’s Perspective: How to Train a Dog by Thinking like a Dog. The objective of this book series is to explain how to train dogs by thinking like a dog. The Dog’s Perspective is a simple and straight forward approach to dog training that enables anyone to find solutions to many of their dog-related issues. The objective of this first volume, A Philosophy Primer, is to explain the philosophical foundation of the Dog’s Perspective.

This volume describes, compares and contrasts three different training philosophies and their ultimate effect on dog training success. Current training methods are easily categorized into two basic philosophies: Wolf’s Perspective and the Human’s Perspective. This book presents a third training philosophy, the Dog’s Perspective, which is an evolutionary approach that shares both similarities and differences with the other training philosophies.

There are numerous reasons this book needed to be written. First, so much misinformation about dog training is running rampant, especially where it comes to unsubstantiated claims of scientific evidence supporting an opinion or viewpoint. Second, some training methods are too complex and/or ineffective. These problems frustrate most humans to the point of quitting – just giving up on training their dogs.

The individuals harmed the most from this are innocent dogs. Some untrained dogs are just left home alone or confined to their yards. Others are less fortunate and find themselves surrendered to a shelter or worse. The goal of this book is to help stop the abandonment trend by explaining just how easy and straightforward dog training is from the Dog’s Perspective. Trained dogs are lucky dogs and their humans are very happy companions.

Meaning of Dogmane

The Dog’s Perspective is a training philosophy that is dog-friendly, human-friendly, humane and dogmane. What does it mean to be dogmane? The word dogmane is not found in any dictionary, at least at this time. So, a definition is proposed that is based on the definition of humane, but comes from the dog’s perspective. Our upcoming book series, The Dog’s Perspective: How to Train a Dog by Thinking Like a Dog – A Philosophy Primer, discusses the importance of understanding the concept of dogmane and how it compares and contrasts with humane. Neither of the other two training approaches, Human’s Perspective and Wolf’s Perspective, recognizes the existence, let alone the importance, of the dogmane treatment of dogs. A goal of the Dog’s Perspective is to explain why understanding and incorporating the dogmane concept is fundamental to dog training success. Continue reading →

One cannot think like a dog if they do not understand dog biology – how their bodies and minds operate. A basic understanding of the biology of dogs is fundamental to training success, and the foundation of the Dog’s Perspective training approach. In our upcoming book series, the basics of dog biology are introduced. One basic skill is teaching dogs “look” to get their attention. “Look” is a fundamental skill that is the basis of all other training skills. Ironically, many people ask why “look” is so important. When dogs look at their human, they are engaged and ready to listen. Dogs like following directions and look to humans for guidance. The Dog’s Perspective

The Dog’s Perspective is a dog training philosophy that is both dog-friendly and human-friendly. All training techniques are not only humane, but more importantly “dogmane”. This training philosophy is a canine-version of Positive Discipline, a popular parenting model for human children. Positive Discipline incorporates all four quadrants in operant conditioning to better parent and educate children.
