In late May 2017, two very lucky dogs started the New Leash on Life (NLOL) program near Asheville, NC. The pups have been in training for a little over one month and their progress is already obvious. Before describing their training progress, the doggy participants in the NLOL program have changed. Originally, the program included Mocha and Anna White. However, Anna White was replaced with another dog – his name is Diesel. Continue reading

What Training Program is Right for You & Your Dog?
Imagine you and your dogs are the talk of the neighborhood…..for all the right reasons. Imagine your dog looks at you and listens to what you ask, the first time and every time, even off-leash. Your dog has excellent manners and their unruly behaviors are no longer an embarrassment. Every dog owner wants to reach these goals and enjoy the benefits of having a thriving partnership with their trained dog. The real question is how to achieve these training goals. What is the best tactic or training scenario? Continue reading
Are Dogs Limiting or Liberating?
Do you believe life with dogs is limiting or liberating? Does your dog give you more freedom to do what you want to do? Or, does your dog get in the way of your freedom? Granted, if you are a big world traveler and away from home for long periods of time, a dog may not fit your lifestyle. Other than being a world traveler, does your dog limit your freedom or liberate you to be more confident to achieve your goals, no matter how simple or complex? Continue reading
Is Your Dog Leash Reactive?
Not certain what that means? If your dog pulls, lunges, barks and/or snarls at dogs or people while on leash, your dog is leash reactive. This is one of the most common complaints about dog companions, and potentially one of the most dangerous. Leash reactivity is becoming a serious problem because someone typically gets hurt. And these are not isolated incidences, but repeated problems. Often times, each incident involves multiple people and/or dogs in one fell swoop. Reported human and dog injuries include sprained, torn and broken arms, legs, wrists, ankles, fingers, tendons, ligaments along with the all too frequent and yet completely avoidable dog bites.
Have you ever needed help or advice of a professional trainer? Have you ever noticed that skilled trainers can take an ill-mannered, unruly dog and turn them into a dog with exemplary behavior within a few sessions using positive techniques? It seems to be nothing short of a miracle and a dream come true. However, when you are on your own with your pup, it seems like progress is out of reach. And then there are the complications when other dogs or humans become distractions. This disconnect arises because improvement is only possible if YOU – the human companion – possesses the necessary training skills and positive approach to learning. This is where practice makes perfect. And the best place to practice training skills with distractions is with group sessions. Continue reading
Imagine you and your dogs are the talk of your neighborhood – for all the right reasons. Imagine your dogs walk on leash without pulling – ever! Even when they see a cat, squirrel or another dog! Imagine that you can walk up to strangers or neighbors and your dog does not jump, bark or lunge on the leash. Imagine that your dog listens to you the first time and every time! Now imagine that you can take your dog off leash and you have the confidence that your dog will not bolt or runaway. Imagine that your dog is the poster pup for the well-mannered dog. Dogs have given us their absolute all.
We are the center of their universe.
We are the focus of their love and faith and trust.
They serve us in return for scraps.
It is without a doubt the best deal man had ever made.
